THE DCC UCC GREEN TEAM Initiative Review of 2024

After 12 months of researching, collaborating, and collecting recycling/composting information, the Green Team has helped DCCUCC become a more “eco” aware community, thus reaching the goal of protector of Earth. SWACO, Rumpke, Republic and Compost Exchange were gracious in their time and guidance as public entities. Reverend Lisa Bowersock and Reverend Becky Sunday showed great trust in allowing us to move full steam ahead with this new mission. Laura Zuber has assisted with ordering supplies and organizing communication with the many outside groups that use the church for meetings. We are thankful to have worked with Ken Bitter, Bob Redfield, and Jim Ramey of the Buildings and Grounds Committee. They added recycling to Republic’s pick up, assembled the compost bench and added compost pick up to their budget. Additionally, they worked to add recycling and compost duties to the contract with Trimax. Thanks to the Mission Committee for adding the Green Team effort into their fold of many missions. Rummage Sales are the biggest green events the church supports and we appreciate Betsy Smith allowing us to incorporate additional eco steps. Special kudos to the Green Team volunteers for hauling recycling and compost off site until the church could provide these onsite services. We would also like to thank everyone who has supported this mission during their respective events and in the handling of their responsibilities at the church. The Kitchen and Fellowship committees also adjusted to this mission with the types of service products purchased and the way that they handled their waste. The Green Team had no beginning budget and have since raised $1,774.95 with a Foundation Grant, Second Mile Giving, and fundraisers. We look forward to seeing what additional green steps we will take on in 2025.

Sincerely,

Rebecca Shorter and Alice Wissman
