June 28, 2020Confirmation Sunday

These verses were selected for each confirmand.

Brandon…

Psalm 139:2

You know when I sit down and when I rise up;

You discern my thoughts from far away.

Actually, Brandon, your thoughts are not from far away…but you keep them close to the vest, so to speak. You are not the first to hold up a hand, but you are the deepest thinker of the class. We found that you always had a different way of looking at the question or the situation in a way that would surprise and challenge us. Keep thinking…keep challenging…

Ella

Psalm 131:2a

But I have calmed and quieted my soul

The world is changing. Ella if someone had told me 12 months ago what would be happening on the fronts of health and justice issues I would not believe them. But you, you who have a calm and quiet soul also have a mind to discern the needs for the coming decades. Whenever we called on you or whenever you brought forth a question, you revealed a deep well of understanding that goes beyond a mere 14 year old. My generation has not succeeded so well and I suspect it will be your generation who brings to the fore the needs of a more just society and why you in particular…because you have a calm and quiet within your soul.

Maddy

Psalm 105:43

So God brought his people out with joy,

God’s chosen ones with singing

No, I don’t recall you singing in the Confirmation Classes this year but you definitely have an artistic bent to your life. You are always a joy to be around on Monday nights and ready with an answer or a question. But, Amy and I will remember you most for your stunning contribution to the banner making. I have seen the commercials where people pick up an Ipad and create stunning artistic designs. But you actually did that. As the class tossed around ideas about the colors and design…you quickly incorporated that into a creative design that all could see. Having a real artist in front of us…we proceeded to create. Thanks to you. May all of your endeavors in life be so filled with joy and productive and affirming.

Benjamin

Job 42:2

 (Then Job replied to the Lord)

“I know that you can do all things;
    no purpose of yours can be thwarted.

Obviously not. Not only will your intellectual life find meaning, but for you the ways of life are limitless. I hope you continue to do good things, I know you will. Your trips to Central America with your father (and Beth Bowzer) and other medical folks will for a foundation for service…not just because that is the right thing to do but because it is the difficult AND the moral thing to do. You can do all things. My generation is longing for those who will…The mantel is passed Benjamin…take it, run, create and thrive.
